Default Whatcha Got?

I just bought a 2011 FatBoy from the stealer and they say they have no info on the bike. All they say is "what you see is what you get". The bike is in great shape and runs great but that's all I can tell. It obviously has a Stage I because I can see the Rineharts and Screamin Eagle intake.

It's not a real smooth start like stock bikes and it definitely has some gitty up, so I'm wondering what else has been done. Is there any way to guess what's been done other than ripping it apart?

WOW.......Dealer selling a bike and they have absolutely no info on it....I think I'd tell them to go pound salt.... These aren't the old days where ya had to wait a long time and get on a list for a bike. There are alot of good bikes to be gotten. I'd be a little worried with the lack of information. Whats that Latin thing, "Carpe Diam....Let the buyer beware" Just my thoughts. Good luck.

They may have bought the bike from an "repossessed" auction accounting for the lack of info.

Are you a first time Harley owner? The reason I ask is, to a new rider, not familiar with the big TC performance, the bike may very well seem to have more done to it than a Phase 1. I have a 13 Heritage and to the person not familiar with the improvement of adding a 2 into 1 Road Rage, a tuner and Ness Big Sucker Air intake (or any other Phase 1 improvement) it's easy to misinterpret the increase in performance. A friend with a stock 2012 Fat Boy was blown away by the additional power after my Phase 1 modifications.

I know of no way of "Guessing" if other work has been done. Perhaps someone with much more mechanical knowledge than myself can tell you more. A dyno tune would tell the tale, but that would be an expensive route if the bike was running well and no other work was planned.

Glad you're happy with your purchase of that nice Harley!

The dealer seemed to be pretty good at the time. A buddy bought his new bike there and recomended them. Unfortunately, they aren't as good as the first impression.

I am new Harley owner. I rode a few bikes with similar mods and this one seemed to have a little more power but as you implied, it could be just the tune. I have it in the shop now and planning to go to a 107 over the winter. Too many close calls and I need more bottom end to get out of the way faster. It's a safety issue. At least that's what I tell my wife.

Let me tell you a quick story... a couple bikes ago I picked up a bike from a guy who went down lowside and gave up riding.

He went on and on about how fast his bike was and all the motor work he had into it, and handed me a stack of receipts for all the parts he bought and another receipt for the install he has a professional shop do with the parts he bought. I bought the bike for an agreed upon price, (the upgrades added nothing to the value to me...but I expected to get money for them when I sold the following spring) brought it home and started taking it apart getting ready to repair/replace the damaged parts from his accident

As I'm pulling the bike apart, and rebuild. I get the bike all done and during shake down miles I'm unimpressed with performance and hear a noise and it's not running great.

I'm not an engine guy so I have a buddy come take a look. We pull the motor and sure enough BONE STOCK 88" internals, Not the Cams, Gear Drive Kit, Programmable Ignition, Chromemoly pushrods, hydro tappets, and no stroker kit, no head work...nothing!

Almost $10,000 worth of receipts and all we can find that was done is a stage 1 with pipes and intake and the big difference, a change in size on the pulleys to give a little more off the line power.

The "pro" who did the install had since closed his business... and my guess ran with all these expensive upgrades that someone else paid for

so even if you think you know... sometimes you don't

It's a custom build from an HD shop. I haven't checked out the fuel motto. I'm skeptical and researching the heck out of this. They seam to know what they're talking about and have the Dynos to back it.

That sucks but how do you know you're not getting screwed? All I can do is ask for the pulled parts when they're done but even then there's no gaurantee.

The fuel moto is interesting. For what the dealer wants to charge, I can get the 117 from fuel moto, installed. Now I have to do more digging. I have an appointment with the shop this weekend to configure my build. I'll have to see why they are so much higher than fuel moto.
