My analog looked cool and worked fine as far as the temperature . However it is very hard to read the oil level especially with clean oil , my old eyes can't see any oil , put the OEM back in - more better . Wide grey plastic much easier to read the oil level .

DaveJ,
I put the mark at 235 or so because even if theengine itself can handlea lot higher temps, the additives in the oil can't. Their overalleffectivnessstart's getting compromised at around250, and temps higher than thatseriously affect their long term lifespan. Temps a lot higher than that, like your 266 to 331 are really way too high for the additives and are fast approaching levels where even good dyno oil starts breaking down.

So while the MoCo says temps as high as that are pushing the limits, my 'personal' limits are 235/250. If 'MY' bikegoes over that, I'm in for an oil change.i'm also going to looking at why its getting so high.

Citoriplus, switch to a full syn, and your concerns are over..

I did the analog thing too.
The temps really don't really matter IMO, I just needed a toy at my last visit to the HD shop.

.....BTW I tried the Red, but it was a little too dark to see easy at night. So I useda bottle of yellow that one of my son's ex goth gf's left behindafter she got replaced.I have been using it to waterproof things with. Yellow seemslike it will bea bit easier to see after dark.
Dude you crack me up, that's f'n funny! My ex gf left a bottle of silver here maybe I'll try that. I was watching this thread wondering which one to get and now thanks to all you I'm going with the analog one too. Thanks.

Bonecrusher,
I don't know how wellsilver is going to show up on the chrome outer ring, Yellow is an international warning color so it fits what I'm trying to do, besides I had it laying around so why not use it for something really useful?

VETTE68327,
Its been snowing since this morning, and they were predicting anything up to 10". Only problem is thatnothing is 'sticking'. I think its been a little too warm for too long around here. So all its doing ismelting on contact with the ground. Still, its cold and wet enough out that I have written off any thoughts ofdraggingthe bike out to 'play'.

Good point. Wonder what the person at the checkout counter will think when they see my buying yellow finger nail polish? If you guys knew me that would be an even funnier visual.

Know anyone who paints model's, planescars, tanks and things?
Bet they have at least one little bottle of yellow Testors model paint laying around that would work at least as well.
Just be sure to use a small brush and wipe it down with some kind of cleaner first or it won't stick to the chrome ring verywell.
The gauge is likely to have at least a small bit of oil film on it given where and what they are.
