Exhaust question
Hey guys. So my 96 cu in engine is being replaced with a brand new 96 cu in engine and trans. Everything new and everything paid for by my ESC.
Now I bought a 103 cu in stage 2 kit with SE255 cams. and I already have stage 1 instake and slip on exhaust.
The bike is being sent to some well known tuner to be dyno tuned once it is done.
Now my question now that you know the facts is as follows:
Should I buy a full exhaust or keep my slip ons? I currently have S&S slipons and I love them. They look killer and sound killer without being too loud.
But since I'm paying good money for a dyno tune then maybe I'm shorting myself of power/torque by sticking with my much loved slipons.
Will it make a big difference going to a full exhaust? Not so much?
I don't mind spending the coin but then again I don't want to do it for marginal gains.
Thanks

Well i do care which is why I asked. I was just wondering if it would make a big enough difference to warrent the cost. I mean one or two extra horse power and a couple extra of ft lbs of torque might not be worth the cost but maybe more hp/torque would be.
I'm sitting here thinking that though my pipes are stock w/ S&S slip-ons; what would make a aftermarket pipe any better? 2-1 I understand but I'm not the biggest fan of the 2-1 design. I kinda like the look of dual stacked pipes. I was looking at some full systems and wondering how much of a difference would it really make?
I dunno lol

if your looking for more performance 2-1 is better. If you are after sound and style (not to say 2-1 is ugly, it looks good on the right bike) get whatever you want. I don't believe there is much to be gained when doing a full exhaust. Generally your not increasing pipe diameter, pipe length changes the numbers a little, flow is automatically improved after you remove the stock mufflers that have the cats in them or the cats themselves. But hp and tq gains are negligible. Unless you have a big cid engine, I think overall best bang for the money will always be a dyno tune or some kind of computer tuning even for a stock engine. What are a few hp or tq numbers going to do you unless you ride two up or racing. $600 plus to have the bike look cooler is almost a drop in the bucket when you consider how all the little things add up. I think the style of the exhaust sets the tone for the style of the bike. As does the sound, weather loud or quiet.
I would agree that the benefit of a 2-1 or an H-pipe set-up is marginal. But I think the one you should be asking is the Hot Shot Dyno guy. If he's as good as his reviews, then he should be able to give you a very close idea of both HP and TRQ numbers even before it hits his dyno. On both pipe options.
The 2:1 will have better scavaging and will increase midrange torque. Your probably not going to gain or lose anything by keeping your stock head pipes as both will be a free flowing 1 3/4 inch pipes

Thanks guys. Reading through your posts I think I can save the cash and just stick with my current S&S slip-ons. I really do like the look and sound.
I would love to buy a 2-1 setup if I could find one that looks good on my bike but tbh most don't look too appealing to me.
I'll do a little research on some of them but right now I think I feel good about keeping my current system.
Thanks again!

Just another heads up / Option....There are now a shitload of single side pipe set-ups that have an H-pipe set-up. And unless you are looking for it most would not even notice. Not quite the "True" top horse power and torque of the 2-1 but pretty close. Just a thought in your future research.
