Question Newbie

Hello,

My name is Angie and I am new to this forum, looking for guidance and tips on doing some work to my 05 Harley night train. I wanted to change my tire from 150 to a 200... Any advice?

That wide tire kit is expensive. Do your research and keep your eye open for 07 and up take off parts

Default don't do it

My advice is don't do it. In my experience with 200 tires is dismal because they wear out too quickly plus it's expensive and a bunch of work to do. Handling wise I would not exceed the 180 barrier as it seems to be about the best compromise for the wide tire look and makes it easier to initiate turns and hold your lines. You would need to do some measuring and checking various tire brands but you might fudge and fit a bigger tire in without doing a bunch of mods. I know on my 80 FXWG I went from 130 to a 150 with no problems, and on my 84FLHTC went to a 140, and on my 02FLT went to a 140 so do some measuring. Merry Christmas and welcome.

Welcome Angie! I have to agree, I wouldn't do it BUT its ultimately your bike, your coin. As long as it is bad *** to you, nothing else matters.

But, and again, you came to the right place. Check out the vendor directory and you will talk to some knowledgeable people and who can probably find you anything you wanted.

Angie,

Snowyone's advice is spot on. Modifying your 05 Train to mount a 200 rear tire is very costly and labor intensive. Not much bang for the buck other than looks. I recommend changing your front tire from a 90 series to a 120. Gives the bike much better handling characteristics. You'll need to change to a wider front rim and fender. Minor cost resulting in substantial results.

There are numerous other beneficial modifications you can invest in other than the wide tire kit. Here are a couple pics of my 03 Train.
