I just put these on my new '07 Deluxe. I'll have to take some photos because they look great. They won't fit with factory shotgun exhaust (i.e. Deluxe, Deuce, Fatboy) but I put the V&H tru-duals on. I also have the detahcable backrest and there is a bracket set you'll need so that both work. I also added passenger footboards and had to use a different system for a stabalizer bar thatgoes from the back of the bags to the footrest peg, but it was supplied and not a big deal. All in all a very easy install. Nothing but compliments and it's very quick to take them on and off. I was looking at other bags, but I think HD hit a home run with this new set.
Thanks for the pics on that! I've been wondering about options for bags when using the detachable backrest option.

Are those posts your backrest and bags are simultaneously mounting to from Easybrackets or HD?

gk1410,

Thank you very much for the photos,
They look good,
Certainly better than harley's catalog pic.

The HD detachable ones are way over priced, while nice...arnt anything to grin about....

Best bet if you want detachable stuff.. Easy brackets (one that works with detachable sissy if u want that too)
and get just about any bag (email/call the bag maker and ask if it will fit) most places will help you chose from their bags
then you can get any style, size you damn well please and usually hundreds cheaper... but not cheaper quality

Easy brackets makes just about any non-detachable bag into a detachable.... they even offer a 3rd point mount to make sure
your bags don't hit your wheels.. belt... etc...

Tho if you like the style..and have money teh HD bags are ok... I have em, but Id go to easy brackets if I had thought about it before hand heh..

I also looked at E-Z brackets and aftermarket bags, but by the time I added everything together it was 6 of one a half dozen of the other (assuming you go someplace like Chicago Harley and save 20% on the bags). I was getting everything at discount so bought all H-D. Besides the harware that come with the bags, you need H-D part No. 88256-07 to mount both the bags and detachable backrest. The bags and mounting are new to H-D this year and a big improvement over what was previously asvailable.

With the detachable mounts that HD supplies that also do detachable for a sissy bar... you will also require a rear turn signal relocation kit.

Now, the one HD said to get for my 07 fatboy is nothing short of being one fugly looking piece of hardware..WHY? cause it has two strut extenders that are chrome and fit nicely... but extend the struts PAST your fender. Oh man does it look f'n ugly to me.

I got an idea from these forums about a strut mounted mini bullets that are LED turn signals, they look decent and put off a good amount of light in dark or sunny conditions. They look to me a hell of a lot better than using the strut extended garbage HD tells you to use with their detachable system. You can get them in amber or red, you can also put a clear crystal on em for looks but will still light up either red or amber. You can also add one of them converters to make your turn signals into a brake light and/or running lights as well(but I don't like rear running lights, very distracting when following thinking of when they are breaking or not. IMO)

I am looking at these bags for my 2007 fxstc. 88238-07. Does anyone have them that can tell me the inside dimensions?

I am trying to understand if they are big enough. Mostly interested in the opening size and depth... Will It hold my laptop?

Thanks

Just with the small bullet turn signals, they wont fit with the relocation kit HD supplies for the detactchable sissy bar/backrest on the fatboys. Been there tried it.

The mast that you use with the large style bullet lights has to be used with the small bullet lights. The wiring feeds through a different hole to the mounting hole on the indicator housing. The mast supplied in the relocating kit allows for the wiring to pass through the centre of the post so it can not be seen.

Hope this helps.

Did quite a bit of research here on this subject, and recently found a thread pointing to the detachables from Osprey Limited - http://saddlebags.net/Harley/harleysoftail.php. I was pretty sold on getting the Leather Pro bags until I couldn't find a local dealer with stock (so I could physically see them and decide which size I wanted). The Osprey bags are reportedly great quality, very well made, and the Bull bags don't require relocation of the signals. They use Easy Brackets for mounting. They will also customize as desired, and best of all their prices are EXCELLENT - much lower than the others discussed.

I ordered my Leather Pro bags for my 03 Fatboy last week. I haven't received them yet becuase the dealer didn't have any in stock and had to order them. I expect to receive them this week but they did have a display and I was pretty impressed and so was my OM. The leather they use for the bags is really thick and I loved that they had the poly molded inserts so the bags won't sag. It was also nice that they come with the hardwear so that you can run a detachable sissy bar set up. While i don't plan to use my sissy bar set up ( I never ride a passanger) it's nice that I can still use it if needed. You never know when the OM and I might be forced to share the softtail.
