Default Paint question

I know a paint job really stands out but why in the hell it cost so darn much for a tank and 2 fenders. I can understand the graphics and pin striping. I think I am going to learn how to paint

Does the cost include removal and reinstallation of the tank and fenders?

My guess is you are also paying for the CUSTOM aspect of it. The fact that no one else has the paint job makes the value of it go up. Kinda like any other limited edition item. It's obvioiusly not because of materials. Just my thoughts.

Well, I have had my tin off so many times that it is a peice of cake to remove them, at least to me it is. For custom jobs I see paying some good money but a lot of these guys they see the name Harley and then they see $$$$$$$.

I had my tank emblems dug out and 2my fenders were aftermarket so they had to have a little bodywork done to them.It was $475.00 to have them painted black.@ colors would have almost doubled the price.

Have you priced automotive finishes lately? Its not just a quart of paint. Good quality primers, sealers, basecoats and clearcoats are not cheap. lets not forget about the candy colors and pearls. Example, 1 pint of harlequin or chameleon basecoat is well over 300 bucks. You can easily tally up 600 bucks or better in materials on an average "paint job" The more CUSTOM you want, the more you pay.

I agree. Some of the paint is quite pricey. And like you said, the more custom you want it, the more you're going to pay. The quality of labor you choose is going to add to the price also. I was lucky and found a guy that does amazing work for quite a bit cheaper than other places I've seen. It's all in what you want and who you want to do it. You would think that the difference between painting a car and painting a bike would be more than what it is though. I guess you can't compare apples and oranges. It's what the market is willing to pay.

I believe it has to do with all the crap the EPA puts professional paintshops through. While the paint is not at all cheap, neither are all the air scrubbers, inspection certificates, waste disposal, etc.

I just got my tins back, see sig. pic. I visited the shop in Fl where the work was done, Attitude Custom painting, and they had two large paint booths due to regulations. Also, a ton of work to strip, prime, tape off design, paint, clear, sand, reclear, etc. A good paint job is going to cost some bucks, unless you want a job that just looks like it came outta Maaco.

Like all things, you will usually get wat you pay for, cheap is cheap, quality costs a bit more.
