Default Loose spokes

Took my bike in to the dealer for the 5000 mile service and just got a call reporting all 40 (or however many there are) of the rear spokes are loose and have lead to warping of the wheel. They can't true the wheel and guarantee it, as it has "wallered" out the holes in the wheel, so they've advised replacing the wheel. That'll run you about $900, they say. They were unable to tell me how this could have happened, and the ESP warranty (as usual) does not cover it. WTF?

No, bought the bike with 4k miles from halfway across the country, from a dealer that changed out the tires. My dealer agrees that there's no reason to mess with the spokes to change out a tire.

Find a used stock wheel to swap onto your bike. We see this at times in the shop, the spokes once loose will wallow out the holes in the soft aluminum hub and you will not be able to true it and keep the spokes from coming loose again...

reason that I asked , is the spokes on a new bike usually "bed in "
in the first 500 miles, and if adjusted on the 500-100 miles they are good to go for many many miles.

As for checking spokes on a tire change , that is the sign of a mechanic , but not a parts changer...
Sadly we have a lot of "parts changers" and very few mechanics left.

very quick "wrench ping! " test takes about one minute.

sorry for your bad luck ..with whoever was responsible for your simple maintenance

If you are looking for a new/used rear.. Let me know. I've got a set of take-off's from my '12 Deluxe I'll be getting rid of here in a week or two (as soon as my wheels come in). It's got the 25 mm bearings, but maybe your shop could at least swap out the bearings?

Let me know if I can help at all.

Should be able to find a wheel on eBay for just a couple hundred, if that.

You mentioned ESP- Did you purchase the tire and wheel option?

If you're on Facebook, check out the Deluxe owners and appreciators swap meet. I think I've seen 2 sets of stock Deluxe wheels posted on there in the past couple days, and several more in the fairly recent past. IIRC the more expensive set was $600, with a set of Metzler ww on 'em.
