Default Shift linkage removal

I've searched and can't find anything other than "it's ez" and "take the old off and put the new on" type stuff. I have a slip over billet cover I want to put over the shift linkage rod. There's an acorn nut on the front end that dosent seem to readily come off. There are nuts on either end of the rod too. Can someone give me specific direction to remove the rod so I can slip this part on? I just don't want to mess with it before I have some instruction. Thanks!

Use the correct size wrenches to (1) hold the acorn nut and (2) turn the bolt holding the rear of the link to the trans lever. It may have loctite on it and be difficult to remove.
Then remove the front. The nuts at either end of the end of the link are for adjusting for length of the link.
Here's alink to some instructions:

Not the best video for what you're looking for, but you can see the rear being removed... Same on all big twins. Like previously said, 2 wrench job. 1/2 in on nut, 7/16 on stud. Loc-tite is on both of them. Watch your knuckles, bro.

Would have been a good time to install 2 new Heim Joints. They are about $10 a pair on eBay, will save you a breakdown.
