The linkage is one of the first mods I do, to get rid of the standard rod and joints that are there and clean up the motor area. Good job, welcome to the sickness. One of the easiest mods and you'll get braver as time goes on.
By the way, those are ball end joints that you can replace with nice shiny chrome one's to make the shift linkage look like a single complete piece, get rid of the zinc ends and finish it off. They go for about $20 each on the bay. If you're interested, I have 2 that I planned on using but haven't, if you want them let me know and I'll give you a deal on both.

And probably $60 anywhere else.

Don't have very good things to say about Surdyke. I've been to dozens of HD dealers all across this country (and others), and Surdyke is the only one I've visited that doesn't give disabled veterans a discount.

Their excuse, "Oh, well we donate to Camp Hope for wounded vets every year." Well congratulations, never heard of it, and certainly never been there after I got my happy *** blown up!

Doc's HD is a whopping 20 minutes up the highway, and they're actually willing and want to help you. First time I was ever in Surdyke, some dude come up to me and asks "So, are you a bike buyer today?" When I pointed out the 2015 Road Glide outside that I'd just got three months prior, and said no, they walked away, and no one said a word to me for the next half hour as I browsed through their over priced parts.

Sorry for the off topic rant, but I had to get it out there.
