Default Shift Linkage Question

I am trying to install a Streetglow LED shift linkage. The directions state to measure the old linkage and match the new one to the same length. The measurement of the original linkage (bolt to bolt) is 12.25". When I put the shift rod ends on the new linkage I get 13" with no room for any kind of adjustment.

Will this cause any shifting problems with the new linkage being longer?

Also, while trying to remove the rear shift rod end, it came off the ball (it's a ball/socket bolt) and the socket got damaged so now it won't stay on the ball. I tried to remove the bolt by turning the nut that is on it, but it wouldn't turn. It's as though the shift rod end is permenantly mounted in the trans shifter. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you can cut the new rod down, die the threads further to get your 12.25 spec. Dump the ball ends in the trash because they're going to strand you somewhere when they break. Use heim joints.

My shifter linkage measured 13" bolt to bolt. 09 flhx. If it shifts fine go with it. you may have to move the shifter peg up a couple notches.

Did you measure the length of the original shaft or are you in here to play games?

Fig,

It's not that important that the new Shift Rod isn't exactly the same length as the old one. The only thing you might have to do is to remove the Shifter Peg and rotate it one notch on the shaft so it will be at the right Height for you to shift comfortably.

Like "Clicker" said, replace the end joints with Heim Joints, they are much stronger.

The old Shift Rod End will unscrew from the Shift Arm.
