Default RG Shift Linkage Install - Problems

Guys, I just bought the HD Scripted Road Glide Shift Linkage for my 04 RG. I know it is not rocket science but I read the directions (4 times) and I was running into a strange problem. The rear connection to the trans was no problem. The front was the one that was the problem one. The instructions say for my bike to put the bolt through the hyme and in from the backside (engine side) of the lever with the acorn nut on the outside. Well that works great until I have to upshift then it hit the head. It would not move backwards. So I decided to try it the other way but the acorn nut is WAY to big and also hits the head.

I did get it on by putting the bolt threw from the outside and using the original thin nut on the rear. Sorry I dont have any pictures right now, and it works perfectly am just wondering if I am missing something here. Or if anyone else ran into this.

I did mine and found the intructions were wrong. The front hyme has to go on the outside face of the lever or as you say the hardware will hit the block.

You are apparently doing something wrong, I have an 05 RG and have changed the linkage at least twice since I got it. Looking at it from the linkage side, the bolt should come through toward you from the back side of the shifter arm, then put the new linkage over the bolt so that it is in front of the arm and then put the acorn nut on.

If it is hitting the head, it sounds like you may have the linkage behind the shifter arm, when I say shifter arm I am talking about the one that is attached to the actual shifter peg, not the back one that is actually on the trans.

I hope this helps!!

Interesting, I actually did try it that way. Bolt through from the "block" side of the shift arm, then the linkage hyme on the outside of the lever with the acron nut. What I noticed is that the bolt does not have threads all the way to the end, that smooth part should sit inside the hyme. At least that is what the directions show. I dont have the instructions with my but I can post it later tonight, or does anyone have the instructions for part number 33846-02.

The instructions say to put the front heim behind the shift arm and thread the bolt through and the rear in front of the rear shift arm. I put both heims in front of the shift arms and put the front bolt in from the rear with the acorn nut on the outside and the rear gets threaded in from the font as the arm is threaded itself as shown in my pic

The instructions are almost useless, except about the washer going between the chrome cover and the shift arm.

I have mine in front of the arms on both ends. Bolt from inside out in front and in the rear I took an extra step, I used a stud and an acorn nut thru from the front side so I have an acorn on both ends.

YOU GUYS ROCK, this has been bugging me since Sunday when I installed it. I thought the instructions were wrong, but then I was doubting myself. LOL I knew if I posted it here in about 30 mintues I would have the answer!!!

Thanks for the pictures that helps me 100%. My rear is fine, as for the front tonight I will put the bolt through from the back and the hyme on the outside of the lever, then the acorn.

Thanks a TON guys!!! I will take a pic tonight.
