I was going to reply, but I was beaten to the punch,
Nice bike though, that '04 looks sharp...
Same here. I threw the instructions in the round file 13 and figured it out myself after looking at it while enjoying a cold 6 pak. We don't need no stinking instructions ... just cold beer.

true fact- my instructions were backazzwards also- drank a cold one and figured it out!
OK. I am getting ready to get this linkage on my 09, does the linkage go outboard of the shiftlevers with the acorn nuts on the outside?' I am so confused!

Conehead...look at the Pics above buddy! Shows the linkages to the outside of the shift levers! You sure you didn't go to a South Florida School like me? LOL

Conehead, look at my second picture above you can see it perfectly. Put the bolt through from the backside (engine side), then put the hyme on the outside of the lever, then the acorn nut.
I am looking at the instructions right now, do not follow the picture in figure1 for the front (the back is exactly correct). In step 5 there are two sections, "1999 and later FLHT, FLHR and FXDWG" and "other". DON'T follow the "other" instructions. I think there is a typo they should have added FLT also to the first section.
I can send you some larger photos if you need, but I think you should be OK.
The instructions are almost useless, except about the washer going between the chrome cover and the shift arm.
The washer really goes between the cover and the arm? Putting it between the cover and the new linkage would seem more practical. I would think putting it between the cover and the shift arm would make the cover prone to vibration as well as an added possibility of dropping the washer into the tranny during installation.
