Smile Shotgun Shock relocation complete...

When I first got my Shotgun Shock, I put the switches where a majority has there's, where the horn is. Then a while later I put them on my console. Now it is on my handlebars where the housing is for the clutch lever and front brake lever is. With the help from another member, (509Rider) I knew it was going to be a bitch, but after many hours it's finished. I ran the wires internally and I drilled and tapped holes in the chrome housings. The new mini momentary switch buttons screwed in perfectly. The wiring from the switches are run under the tank and spliced into the Shotgun wiring. You have to go with 4 switches. On the left side, the switches control ride height. The top button switch sets the height and the bottom drops the air. The right side switches control the rebound. The whole idea behind it was adjusting my Shotgun Shock on the fly without taking my hands off the hand grips. That's it for now...

Excellent work on the relocation! That is a much more accessible and factory like integration.

Nice job. Very clean installation. You may want to post a DIY thread with plenty of pics, where you got the switches and post the link in your sig. Unless, of course, you want to go blind responding to PM's from other members who want to do this...

Just a thought...

Okay, here are the details on the S/gun Switches. I got my 4 mini momentary push button switches on ebay. 11 bucks each. While I was waiting for them I took apart the controls, levers and grips both sides of the bars. I used light weight string to get through the bars so I could pull the wiring from the new switches internally. At the lowest part of my bars is where the stock internal wiring exits from. I used my jet vac to suck up the string through the bars. Did that for both sides. Now you should have a string hanging out your bars on both sides and at the bottom where the stock wires exits. I took the 2 chrome housings for each side to my work bench. marked both holes on each housing. I used a 9/32 drill bit for the holes. I used a 5/16 x 24 thread tap for the threads for the switches to screw into. Follow me so far. LOL. Now you have to reassemble the both housings back on the bars but leave the strings hanging. Now where you drilled the both holes in each of the housings, you have to use a nail punch dead center of each hole to leave a mark where to drill into the bars. I drilled the 4 holes, 2 holes 5/16 on both sides of the bars. BE CAREFUL here to not touch the stock internal wiring in the bars. I put a long screwdriver in the area where I was drilling through the bars to protect the wiring. These holes are for the wiring for the new switches. So far so good. Looking through the holes you just drilled through into the bars, pull the string that is hanging where your grips go. Leave the other end of the string alone. Thread your new switches through the threaded part of the housings you did earlier. Tie your new switch wire ends to the string and carefully pull the wiring using the other end of the string at the exit where your new wires will exit. It will be tight but have some patience here. I had to do it twice because I kept breaking the string. Once you wiring is through the bars, now it is time to do the splicing. Take all the covering off near the original shotgun switches so you can see the colored wiring. Now do 1 switch at a time. Put it up. What color is the wire in the direction of the switch? Do this for both switches. There is a different wire for each switch function. Mark each colored wire and what function it does. My 2 original shotgun switches were orange, red and green. And one was white, red and blue. The red on both switches is you power. Okay, more fun. Now cut off you original shotgun switches and strip the ends off the 6 colored wires. Now I didn't have to add any more wiring to meet the new switch wiring. Now strip the ends off the 8 wires from the new switches. 4 on each side. What I did next is what I wanted what each switch should do. You should to. On the left side top switch, I spliced one wire from that switch to 1 colored wire for what function it did. On the bottom switch, I spliced 1 color wire again for what function it does. The other 2 wires left over from the left switches, splice them together with the red wire from the original shotgun switch. Do the same exact thing for the right side switches. I know this sounds so confusing but once you start doing it it is really simple but time consuming. That's why I did it now here in New England as one of my winter projects. Well that's it for now. Please pm me if you have any questions. Good luck...

I was thinking of using the controls from a Road King myself but I'd want to see a wiring schematic of the Shotgun Shock first.
