The other problem with just having a bracket to lay it down is you will still have to get inside the fender to remove the bracket under the tombstone light that holds the plate straight up. If you were going to go through that trouble, you may as well get the whole lay down kit.

Just layed back instead of straight up. The bracket looks like it just has a 90 degree angle to it. From what i can tell you just unbolt the lic plate, bolt in the the new bracket and reattach the lic plate to it.

It dont seem like that much trouble at all. Here is a pic (its dark outside). You can see the 2 bolts the hold the plate, the bracket just attaches to that

The lay down kits come with the bracket that needs to be replaced for the lay down plate to be secure. If you didn't want to get a new bracket that mounts under the light, I would at least remove the old one.

You have the stock bracket. Which is what I just changed out on mine. You will need to remove the bracket that is securing the top of the plate, and it is secured under the light.

you could make a bracket like this one, but again, for it to work you will need to remove the bracket from under the light.
