Get your hack saw out and cut pipes right behind floorboards, she will pop then Mine did not pop until I pulled the baffles out, kinda like the jake brake reference. I like that sound, Bwwaaaaaaaaa.. Just not Bwwaaaaapoppopbwaaaaapop
Well, I am very thankful for my mechanic and my Dyno guy because this thing could not be more dialed in than it is right now. I guess everything I did or changed, I picked the right combination and works well together.
It didn't pop before with my 2 into 1 on there either.
I also agree, that's exactly what my bike does now, bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
EDIT: I would not take my bike to a Harley dealer for nothing even if it were free, I would push my bike right past them to get to a trustworthy mechanic.
My carbed bike only popped when I tried open stock pipes and it was minimal. Put baffles in and it was gone. Now stage one and all is good too. As long as the bike is set up properly you won't have it. If you have it..A/F mix needs some adjusting.
"First, when you close the throttle, you are also closing the throttle plates. This reduces the air and fuel flowing into the motor, and increases the vacuum (lowers the pressure). This results in less air and fuel in the cylinder during the power stroke, which in turn results in a lower pressure in the combustion chamber. Remember that the A/F mix burns faster in proportion to the pressure applied. Well, when we reduce pressure this way, the mix burns slower. This results in two things happening.
1. The lower burning fuel generates less heat, and the cooling effect of the non-burning fuel tends to “quench” the flame front, or slow it down even further. Because the mix is burning much slower, the exhaust valve can open before all the fuel is consumed, and the unburnt fuel is ejected into the exhaust.
2. The engine designers, in order to promote smoother idling and better combustion, retard the spark when the throttle is shut, and this results in the mix being lit later.
So, now we end up with unburnt fuel in the exhaust, and burning fuel being ejected into the exhaust, and bang! Backfire."
Remember HD sends the bikes out LEAN to have a low emission total for the bikes they sell.
Our '06 Sporty was carbed and it was overly lean and ran hot and decal popped like a **** until I re-jetted the carb to larger jets and the decal pop and the running hot went away plus, would you believe it, I got better mileage.
TBone, since your bike does not decal POP I'll take it off your hands for $500.00 plus shipping since it is defective and does not POP... LOL ...
I had massive decel pop with my new Breakout/Stage 1 kit and standard map from Dyno Tune on my Power Vision. I ran 3 auto tune sessions (Im still in break-in mode on the engine so havent hit all that many cells) on the PV and the decel pop has decreased significantly by adding more fuel in the 0% throttle positions on the VE tables.
Yea, I guess we are always learning, at least I would hope so. I am way over the top when it comes to maintenance on my bike. I put new plugs in at the start of every riding season and I have yet to go over 2K a season. This year they going to pile up though, going out west this august.
My theory is what I have preached for years, head work with cams to match, auto tuner and putting it on the Dyno. No raw gas is getting past my heads.
I could be wrong but that's what I'm thinking.
Why use an auto tuner if you are tuning it on a dyno?
A new stock Harley will have a little decel pop, you just don't hear it with the stock mufflers. I had a Deluxe and did a Stage I, V&H Straight Shots and a DK A/C. Decel pop was crazy. I added a V&H FP3' used the canned map and the decel pop went away completely.
