Default Are Spring Solo seats comfortable?

Hi Guys,

I looking at putting a spring solo seat on my 2013 Slim and was wandering if they are comfortable? They look thin and not padded and just wanted someone’s first hand experience before I spend the cash etc. Andy brands I should avoid?

Thank you

I had one on my 84 Shovel chop and I loved it. It was hard but to me it was comfortable. Im not a small guy by no means but Im not huge either, but I bought a 10 gauge steel seat pan that I liked the looks of and then I had a buddy add a 1/2" of foam and cover it in leather and tool a design in. It cost me about $400 to buy the pan and have it covered
Now I had a LaRosa brand solo seat which the seat pan was polished aluminum with TIG welded bolts in it and the bolts broke out of the pan within a month of having it. They wouldn take it back so I tossed it in the trash.

You're asking two questions: is the seat comfortable, and, do the springs make it comfortable.

In the stock X-Bones that I have, the seat is wide and comfortable, and the springs are well designed for my weight ~ 170 lbs.

Now, for a heavier and wider individual, the stock seat and springs may not work as well.

I think spring seats are the most comfortable design......two forms of cushion and support that other seats don't have. So, how can it be anything but comfortable? I think the stock Crossbones seat is the most comfortable seat I have sat on, on a Harley.

Default 1929 style HD seat is EXTREMELY comfortable

I can change from the stock Slim seat to this HD spring seat in less than 10 min, and I have several times. There is a change in seat height, I have a 32" inseam and I love the higher seating position, far more legroom when riding, at a stop and when moving the bike around engine off. Besides being far more comfortable the spring seat softens harsh "bumps" in the road.
I had an '06 Fatboy and I thought that stock seat very comfortable as well. I will not ever fit the Stock Slim seat again.
My front mount is chopped and lowered, so are the rear base spring mounts. (Mount was a XBones take off).

I had mine custom made from 1/8" inch steel pan, then covered with closed cell foam and surgical gel. It's a little thicker than some (and thicker than I originally wanted), but it's really comfortable now. I did go with "smaller" 3" barrel springs for the look and sometimes those bottom out on larger bumps, but I'm also 230 lbs. I've never sat on one, but I really like the look of and have heard some really good things about http://motheroadcustoms.auctivacommerce.com/

The spring seat puts you in an upright position which is more comfortable - natural seating position for me. Another benefit of a spring seat is the air gap- air circulation helps reduce heat coming off the engine and oil tank.

My spring seat is wide, somewhat firm -not mushy and comfortable seating position. On longer 400-500 mile days I do use a Harley Air Circulator pad (Large).

it very much depends on the shape and specially the padding of the spring seat, as you can see on my bike I use one that has little to no padding, compare that with the Harley options that comes with a lot more padding.. although I am used to riding with that spring seat.. a 250 mile day trip is all I can take.. or a 600 mile weekend ride... after that my back starts to bother me and my butt is on fire!.. you can use either Gel or Air cushion to improve the comfort greatly...
