08 Heritage Softail won't hold idle backfires
Our Heritage (last year) started backfiring when my bf let back on the throttle. Then, when trying to restart it wouldn't hold an idle once started. We took it in and they couldn't get it to throw any codes. They finally got it to stall out and it threw a code for a relay switch that controls the fuel injectors. They replaced the part and we took it home. Within a week, it was doing the same thing.
Recently, we took it in to our local HD service department. Again it wouldn't "act" the way it does when we have it out. No codes were thrown.
My bf took out the Cylinder Head Temperature Control Sensor today and it ran beautifully. Idled better. No problems. But, he only rode for about 30 min.
In the past, there is no rhyme or reason to when it starts the backfire/no idle hold issue. It does it MOSTLY when the bike hot now. But, there have been times where it's done it cold. Does it with an empty tank or low fuel. When acting up and restarted the bike won't hold the idle and runs really rough and and the cadence of the engine doesn't sound right.. almost sounds like when a bike runs out of gas. Sometimes, it will correct itself while riding. But, after a while it starts up again.
Any thoughts? We are so frustrated! We want to do the long rides and enjoy the bike but this makes it really difficult to do so!
