Do you think HD will ever bring back the Softail Custom? In 2008 I bought a Fatbob, then in 2010 I traded it in and got a 2009 Road Glide. I kind of wish I had bought the Softail Custom back in 2008.
In Australia we have the Softail Standard (FXST) which has been available uninterrupted since 2001ish I think. It's pretty much the Softail Custom.
They're made in the same plant as every other Harley so I don't see why HD USA don't make it available to their home market... maybe you could order one through your dealer?
You'd have to change the headlight but that's about it.
That's one of my favorite looking models. I almost bought one before I bought my Crossbones. The only thing I knew I'd change right away was the solid rear wheel. Just a cool looking bike.
I also would like to see the custom brought back, I sold/traded my 98 custom last year towards my slim and have been regretting that move, don't get me wrong the slim is a great ride but?
I have been searching the dealers locally for a late 90s early 2000s custom.
I have even contemplated going the custom builder route?
My dad traded up in 10 for a 10 custom and loves his. He just lowered the back and put chrome lowers on it. He likes the old school style. The parts guy at the dealership happened to find nos chrome lowers sitting on a shelf somewhere in the US. They don't make some of those parts anymore and he was ecstatic to find them and couldn't pass them up.
All this being said,I'm wondering what's so different from a Custom,as opposed to a Standard.I was lucky enough to snag an '07 Custom, and now I wonder what's so special?Bear in mind this is my first Harley.

I admit I know nothing of what I'm talking about, but when I was looking at them a ways back, thought the standard was just scaled down a little ...
Like a little less chrome ...
Then engine block was a light gray paint ...
Think it was mostly Cosmetic
Here is a picture of my 99 Softail Custom, and a picture of an earlier Softail Standard. As said, the Custom just has a little more ginger bread. Both are the same other than cosmetic and the seat is different on some models. From 84 when it first came out, they all had the same buckhorn bars until at least 99. I love my 99 and would not trade it for a brand new one. Every time I ride it I just grin. It is the most fun to ride I have ever ridden, and in my estimation the best looking motorcycle that was ever made. If I had to buy a newer bike though it would have to be a Cross Bones.
