Default Throttle Cables Reversed

I have a 1991 FXSTS and I'm in the process of replacing the stock CV carb with a new S&S Super E carb. After installing the new S&S manifold I attached the carb. After attaching the throttle cables to the throttle system and housing bracket, I twisted the throttle back to make sure it was on correctly and noticed the cables were loosening when I pulled back on the throttle. Doesn't seem right....

After thinking to myself, I thought well why not just switch the cables on the grip and throttle housing. Well the threaded retainer on each cable has a different size. The throttle cable hole is larger than the idle cable. That didn't help.

If I buy the S&S throttle cables for my particular year and make of Harley, will that solve my problem? Will it still be reversed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why not switch the cables at the carb? Seems to me that is where the problem is.

The instructions call for the cable with the spring to be installed in the rear guide. That's what I did and that's where its reversed at the throttle assembly (grips).

Both cables shouldn't be loose at the same time. One cable pulls the throttle open and the other pulls it closed. Look at what the throttle plate is doing. If they are both loose you need to adjust most of the slack out.

adjust the throttle cable first. Throttle cable should be most forward at the throttle. Adjust that cable till, at full throttle, it is at the throttle stop.

Then adjust idle (rearmost) cable till you have minimal freeplay

Beyond this get someone that knows what they are doing, your life will depend on it

I mispoke in my original message. The throttle cable that was loosened as I twisted the throttle was the cable with the spring, attached to the rear guide. In the instructions, that cable is supposed to tighten as you twist the throttle back, which pulls the throttle plate to an open position.

I'm thinking since the CV carb had a reversed housing bracket, installing the new S&S would reverse the cable guide on the carburetor. Maybe I need to call S&S and explain my situation but I thought i'd give it a try on here and see if anyone ran into the same problem.
