Default Deuce running strange

I have a 2002 Deuce with that has a carbureter. For quite a while it's been running rough, but only sometimes. The only way to describe it is if it was an old car I would say the timing is off. My indy (HD certified and worked for them for 10 years) thinks it's bad gas. It sounded good since I pretty much got 93 octane at the same place. So I changed gas stations and I've been only buying 91 octane non-ethanol. I've also been putting a little Star-tron in it in case it is bad gas.

Now, sometimes, like yesterday, I take a ride of about 120 miles and the engine is so smooth it's like heaven. Acceleration is better, too. I couldn't believe it could run so well. So I get 91 non-ethanol gas at the same station again and immediately it's rough again.

Anyone have any idea?

I know what you're saying. When I say immediateley I mean before new gas should be getting in the engine. When it decides to run good it comes out of nowhere. This has been going on since last summer.

What does he mean bad gas, water, debris, getting diesel instead of gas;-)
Pull the bowl off and check the gas, this is how we tell.
Water will settle in the bottom, crud you can see.
When mechanics can't figure out what is wrong they blame it on the gas.
How are your plugs, wires, there are so many things it could be, map sensor, ignition module, is it throwing any codes?
I would take it someplace else.

When he asked what gas I got I told him I always buy 93 octane at pretty much the same place. He said don't buy that because not many people use it and it sits for a while getting moisture and the ethanol seperates. No it's not throwing any codes. Plugs have only about 8000 miles on them. At first I thought the gas was a good suggestion but it's been intermittant for a while. I was hoping someone here might say they had the same problem and it was (this).

Thanks for the response.

I'd clean the carb out and ck for intake leaks. If it still happens, I. Pull the gas tank and clean it and the petcock out.

I will. I've been doing some searches and the MAP sensor sounds like a good possibility. The symptoms match. Also, I didn't think this would be related but it might be, twice in the past weeks I've stopped for gas and it wouldn't re-start. It would just keep turning over. I shut off the ignition and the kill switch. Waited a second and then turned them back on and she fired right up. I just figured it was hot.

As a matter of fact I was talking to the mechanic today and when I told him how it wouldn't start those times he mentioned the crank sensor as well.
