Just outta curiousity, if the bike has a big bore kit with 203 cams are the tensioners still oem to the 88tc an should be checked? I got an 04 with a 96" an 29k on the tack.
I would think whoever did the cams would've upgraded the tensioners, but there's only one way to know for sure. Pull off the cam cover and peak in there. Only takes about 15-20 minutes and it's easy to check.
I don't care what they look like, I don't care how many miles and how good they look, the bottom line is you have to get those orange plastic shoes the heck outta there, they are going to explode and you do not know when, it is not a question of looking at them from time to time, they flat out have to go
Fishing harley dude if you're still around, based on my observations and experience, I don't agree with you. I'm going to keep an eye on mine, now that I know how easy it is, and replace when necessary.
Hello Joe G good day to you, happy trails, hope your tentioners last forever
For sure they won't last forever. Just like my tires won't last forever. But I don't change my tires while they are still good, I'll keep my eye on them and change them, and the cam tensioners, when necessary.
My point is I don't agree with your assertion that these are a ticking time bomb. If you do, then you should change yours if you have them.
Hey Joe G, you missed previous posts, yes mine are changed, in doing the extensive research, involving the how to process, on how to fix this myself, thats where I learned about the disaster of the plastic shoes, they can go at, any mile, I just changed the shoes, the screaming eagle cam plate is just smoke and mirrors, if you need any help on tools or parts let me know

Yes I did miss your posts but I'll go take a look. How did they look when you changed them?
And thanks for the kind offer, I didn't want to buy all the tools to go to the newer system as it's a big expense as you know.
I thought I'd go with the Cyco tensioners. What do you think about these?
