Default Need to lean on some experience

New to HD. bought a new Heritage. I love the throaty sound. Im a diesel nut and have straight piped 7.3s both 250 and 450 along with a new Cummins 6.7 in my Ram.

Anyway i am considering forward footpegs and straight pipes on my new heritage. Any reasons I should reconsider?

For me...

1. Forward controls = yes as they create comfy riding position (not for all).
2. Straight pipes = no...research tinnitus as you'll be experiencing it within a few thousand miles.

When you say "forward footpegs" are you referring to highway pegs?

No need to research tinnitus. I have lived with that for the last 20 years. That was part of the package deal while on active duty. Too much time spent shooting and around aircraft and other loud equipment. Mostly weapons and aircraft.

I have ridden plenty of miles with no-baffle straight pipes. Never found the engine loud enough to bother me over the wind - that's what hurts your ears.

Ditto...20-yrs USAF (4-yrs firefighter & 16-yrs in communications rooms) did a number on my hearing and then adding loud noise (e.g. live concerts & loud pipes) really added to the cause. At least the disability check helps...

For your exhaust plan...are you going for sound or performance?

Why not? Full forward controls can be expensive, but highway pegs are fairly cheap and take 5 minutes to put on or take off. Not really a big investment. I don't use them, but I put some on yesterday, just in case I change my mind.

Neither will be a bad thing, It's all a matter of preference. Honestly you won't hear much difference between baffled or non-baffled while you ride, assuming they are long pipes that make it to the back of the bike, it is your neighbors that will suffer the noise.

Personally if I were to spend the money on new pipes I would buy what looks good and ensure they have removable baffles. This way you can remove the baffles to "see if you like open pipes". You can put them back in if you need to. The cost will not be much different than straight drag pipes.

You said yes you were talking about highway pegs so to clarify you mean just another place to put your feet while riding, not on the footboards. If so, there are lots of ways to do this, crash bar mounts, mustache bar etc. There are even pegs that can swing out from your footboards. Lots of options.
