Default Acceleration Problem

'03 Fuel Injected Heritage. 10,000 miles on odometer. No engine modifications except for a Stage I intake & Springer dual exhaust with Kerker Slip-On's. Adjusted with aTechlusion EFI. Never experienced an acceleration problem until this Spring.Under normal acceleration through the gears I experience noproblem, however, while in3rd, 4th, or 5th gear & aggressively twist-on the throttle ... Themotor will rev-upbut there is no acceleration from the drive train. After a 3 or 4 second delay with the motor at high rev's it feels as though the drive train finally engages and the bike will slowly accelerate. Experience no problems with shifting or finding neutral.
Any ideas where I should begin looking. Thanks for any and all responses.

Sounds like a clutch issue to me. I'd take it to the dealer and have it checked out.

Clutch wear is considered a normal use occurance, so you will have to pay if you take it to the dealer. Before you do that, look in the owners manual and follow the directions for clutch adjustment. It could save you some cash.

I agree with slipping clutch. Try adjustment first. The clutchlock not may have came loose. If the clutch does not fully engage, it may slip. If after proper adjustment it continues to slip, install a new clutch.

Just a tip, if it is necessary to replace the clutch pack, have them install or you install the easy clutch kit. Its less than $60 and makes the clutch lever action so much easier that you will love it.

I did it myself and it was not a big deal if you are mechanically inclined. In fact replacement of the clutch pack is not that hard. You do have to remove the primary cover to do the job. You also have to remove the clutch cover on the tranny to put in the easy clutch kit. Just a bunch of gaskets and a few hours of your time.

I am a finance guy and I did not have any problem with the repair. Gives you a chance to adjust the primary chain while you have the cover off. You must have a Harley manual and a torque wrench to do this job correctly.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the work yourself and are loadedwith dough go see Harley.
