I agree with the suggestion to check on the cam chain tensioners, as that's a well known problem for the TC 88's until the "fix" in 2007. I have a 2003 Deuce that my lovely wife picked out for my 50th birthday present (surprise!) in 11/02. I checked my tensioners at 26k and they are barely worn. I got lucky with a smooth chain, but it's something I'll have to deal with eventually. My bike has been 100% reliable.
A lot of HD owners don't like the Deuce because of the rear fender look, but I can tell you it's a great riding bike. I've ridden a Road King, Heritage and Sportster and I like the ride of the Deuce much better than all of them.
