What gets me is bikes that have traditionally been chromed out like the Wide Glide for example, have gotten to be mostly black. It's their way of saving money and they try to dazzle us with bullshit marketing, knowing damn good and well that a bike like a Wide Glide looks better to most people with a chrome primary etc. then they get to sell us chrome replacement parts when that is how it should have came to begin with.
That is why with the low volume of sales, I'd like to see more made to order type bikes, where you only pay for what you want. With a made to order system, instead of the customer having to pay for a black primary on the bike plus a pay full price for a replacement chrome primary, the customer should only have to pay a reduced upgrade fee instead of full price.
The Wide Glides used to be chromed out just like the Softail Customs were. Come to think of it, maybe that is why the Softail custom was discontinued, because people expected it to be chrome. I am surprised they haven't tried to sell a blacked out Heritage.
IMHO, the late 80's early 90's were the peak of styling, disregarding any Twin Cam vs. Evo arguments, or EFI vs. carburetor arguments.
The Bad Boy struck a good balance of being sort of blacked out but still enough chrome to provide good contrast. I'd like for them to bring it back.

You mentioned the well chromed out Wide Glides, how about the Dyna Superglide, same kind of deal, came really loaded with chrome, classic style, great bang for the buck, maybe the best HD for all around value and what do they do? Remove it from the line up.
Well, tomorrow night we will know for sure if this year is going to have any significant changes in the softail line, sure hope so........
