I'm using my existing Softail inner primary cover to save on the cost of a Dyna replacement plus it would also seem the "Mid" inner primary is hard to come by.
The bush from HD (part No 34982-02A) is only£1.30.

Unfortunately for me the HD bush is the "split" type and relies on a good interference fit to ensure it squeezes down to 1/2" ID, that wasn't going to be easy considering the OD was 0.597" or just over 19/32".

To cut a long story short I dispensed with the HD bush and purchased a pack of Oilite bushes - 1/2" x 5/8" x 5/8", some Loctite activator and Loctite 660 liquid metal.

Very happy with the end result, quality bushes (2 of them fitted to the inner primary) the original bush in the replacement Dyna outer cover and the selector shaft fits superbly!

Nice job dude !! I didn't realize you lived in England when I was asking to see if you could mail me a copy of the template Russel sent you.

I will eventually get to this job on my bike this spring. I have no heat in my garage and it's winter here. I did major work on my bike last year during the winter and It wasn't very enjoyable because of the weather.

Nice work. Post a picture or a video of you on the bike when you're finished. I want to see what the riding position looks like with mid controls.

Is there any way you could make a copy of that template and mail it me ?

If you can't it's no biggie. I'm sure it won't be hard to figure out where I would need to notch that arm.

How did you do it? Dremel?
I can scan the drawing and email you, pm me your email address and I'll do it over the weekend.

A hacksaw and half round file is all you need to cut the notch.

I also purchased Exiles Stainless shifter rod which is adjustable to ensure you clear the lug in the casting.

For about $100 I put a set of mini-boards on my Deuce. It is probably not as good as actual mid controls, but it has made my bike much more comfortable. My need to stretch is gone, and it allows for some changes in foot position during a ride. If you're doing it solely for comfort, it may be a cheap and easy fix.

Re-fitted the inner primary cover then had to remove all these parts again to get to the Starter Motor bolts - it wasn't so bad this time around tho!

Phase 1 all completed.

Next week I'll look at the rear brake hose and pressure switch for the new master cylinder. Initial thoughts are that I'll probably use the existing set up and get it shortened to suit.

Alain,
What's your opinion of the Arlen Ness side stand you got for your bike, could you post a pic and part number?

PS
Had a sit on the bike before packing in for the day, it's so comfortable!
Especially the right hand side, my knee now sits behind the air cleaner rather than having to bend around it!

Looks bitchin dude!! Are you going to keep the forward control assembly? Or are you doing that just for now until you figure what to do with the kick stand?

I think it would look much better without that forward control assembly on there.

I really like the Arlen ness kick stand man ! I recommend it. I have to do some research for the exact part number. But if I remember correctly, they only make one model for softails so it should be easy.

Oh, and my email address is Alain.delrio@gmail.com.

I appreciate the help with the drawing. Thank you.

The forwards will come off eventually.

Phase 2 will be the brake line.
Phase 3 will be the side stand

and finally Stage 4 will be a new exhaust.

It's cost me a tidy amount of cash but it's well worth it!

I've emailed the template.

Got the template, thanks again man.

Here is the part number for the Arlen ness kickstand I used. 1902-0038, around $180. So far I've had no issues at all. It gives the bike a real custom look.

The only problem I had was that the set screw they sent with the kickstand to lock it into place once you get the desired height was the wrong size. A quick trip to the hardware store fixed that though.

Thanks for the Ness part No.
Did you need to drill and tap into the frame or are there a couple of tapped holes already on the frame?
