I was changing the engine, gearbox, and primary oil today. I took off the whole primary cover (as my bike doesn't have an easy access cover) to check the chain tension and nylon bit. Well, when I was buttoning it all up, I found this piece on the ground under the bike.
Does anyone recognize it? I'm thinking (hoping) that it's from something else, a tool I used or something, but I can't figure it out.
Well that's unfortunate... Thank you for the help, though!
I can't imagine that I need the locating pin to actually be installed, since it's already "located", right? Just put it in a baggie and install it next time I change the fluids?

I'm not positive about that and I'm just **** enough that I would pull it back apart to put it in.
But one would think if it isn't leaking it is probably OK.
Yeah you're probably right... It's also a good idea to verify that the other dowel pin is installed and not just floating about inside the primary. Thanks!
Yes, it's odd that this dowel was found after a fluid change. I could only speculate as to why but the dowel in the photo is identical to the 2 large dowels on the top of the inner primary. The purpose of the large dowels is to align the starter.
Attached is a photo of the inboard side of an inner primary from an 08.
