SLV,

I see in that rack, the functionality and the experience of a guy who knows very well the practicality of BMW At the begenning I was not sure but the final result is amazing! May I ask a favor? I'm interested to see a full-up picture!

Nicely done!

Thanks Loonie. I was skeptical myself, but I like making stuff and had little to lose compared to the cost of ready-made stuff.

When you say full-up, do you mean with all three bags? Or a picture of the rack by itself?

With all three bags SLV! No rush, I know that you're waiting two bags.

Default Ground Clearance... Fork Tubes +2 and PS Monotubes

Slim S is lacking clearance for me, especially coming off Dynas and a Road King.

This isn't quite a low budget solution, it is however effective and reversible.

Parts required...

2 x 45417-00 Fork Tubes FXST -00 and up (1 5/8" or 41mm longer)
1 x 0411-0045 Drag Specialties Slider Cover Black, +2" (50mm) Pair.

1 x 31-2503 Progressive Suspension Mono Tube Set. Softail -00 up.

1 x machined spacer 3/4" or 20mm for brake tee under triple tree.
1 x 2" x 1/4UNC screw and machined sleeve or tubing.

Removal and replacement straightforward, there's plenty of info out there.
The machined spacer and sleeve space the brake line tee to a better place with the longer tubes.
The sleeve allows the brake tee to pivot as required, (rather than being held rigid) same as stock.

Riding result is less scraping with more ground clearance, better suspension control under braking and different damping performance over stock.
I'm not here to argue the toss about PS and Ricors and RT springs, Gold Valves, etc. Use what suits your riding style and budget.

The look is noticeable, see the image below.

Here's one of the spacer, in place. I turned down the internal shape to cover the nub of the triple tree and the snap ring.

It's changed the look for sure, not certain if I like it, but hey, I'm riding it more than looking at it. Now it goes through most corners without the grinding noise

Yes I am. First order of business is the Tail of the Dragon in January, then Savannah-Tulsa-Savannah in March.

I haven't had the need, but coming off a cafe Sportster last year and a club style Dyna before that, I certainly know why you did this. The look is only bad for an ape-hangered bobber. Given the retro style, long suspension doesn't look bad.

Another set of eyes doesn't do it any harm either.

SLV I rode to Key West then up to N Florida and put 1500 miles on in one week. I ride a lot obviously, but also have a Springer so I split my miles between both bikes, although the Springer is used for shorter rides.

The dealer said I was the first 2016 to come in for the 5k service. Guess it's my claim to fame.

The LED on the dash went out so that was replaced under warranty today, along with my rear tire which was close to toast. Not too pleased that the rear only got 5k.
