Clean Handlebars on my CAN Bus scoot
I have an oil pressure gauge, still plenty of pressure even when idled down.

Don't lose Scott's question with my quick post, but can I ask what you do down here that you get to use those skills, or are you just a hobbyist? My oldest (13) is in a STEM club so if here's a cool career here I'd love to tell him about it.
I looked at the technical documentation for the Motogadget M-unit.. it seems this is a "Generic" output kind of module.. it mentions "Japanese" and "Ducati".. nowhere in the documentation it mentions "CAN" bus.. so... this is NOT a product designed for "CAN Bus Harleys" in mind... let me stress "Harley CAN Bus".. CAN bus is an open design.. so.. it's up to the builders (Motogadget, NAMZ customs.. me.. etc.) to come up with a module that works for certain HD machines.. like ours..
Sorry Scott.. that Motogadget module wont work on your 2015 bike.. harley went CAN Bus back in 2011... the M-Unit is not compatible... I hope you can return it..
As I said before.. unfortunately there is nothing in the market that replicates what I have done with my 2011 Blackline.. NAMZ customs has a really cool CAN module... but it won't work with the Gripace switches .. it seems both NAMZ and Gripace are completely oblivious to the potential of the NAMZ + Gripace switches combo .. or GripAce producing a CAN Bus module that integrates with their current handlebar module .. it baffles me.. I created a solution that merges both CAN module + GripAce switches... I have yet to see a similar solution in the market (and I REALLY want to see something like it in the market .. I'll be the first one to buy it!!... .. I really want for us 2011+ riders to have a market ready version of my idea .. not a hobbyist version (like mine)) lol
I am going to the Toy Run on Sunday.. I'll be more than happy to show you my bike and the clean bars.. hell.. who knows... perhaps I can turn my idea into a production module!!!
On a side note.. the advent of the 2016 "Throttle by Wire" HD machines is going to send the "CAN bus module" companies (like Motogadget, NAMZ Customs and GripAce) into a redesign process since the "Throttle by Wire" introduces new CAN codes and complexity (the next version will need to provision a way to use the "Cruise Control" feature in a "Clean Handlebar" configuration)).. Unfortunately I don't have the financial means to trade in for a 2016 HD so I cannot hack the data and produce a solution for "Cruise Control" clean bars.. :-( .. funny thing is that Chester Harley of Florida saw my bike and they asked me if I was willing to make custom versions for clients.. the sad reality is that the Patent system in the beautiful US of A is so broken that is not even worth trying.. lawsuits anyone????? :-)
Joe.. I was not aware of the STEM club.. it seems awesome!!!!.. I am a computer engineer by trade ... and VERY passionate about technology and ROBOTICS.. that is why my profile name is JoeBotics!!!.. you can look me up in youtube.. I actually built award winning robots !!
Cheers.. Jose

You've done a great job with your own bike, surely that could help to open the door for custom work? Particularly if you are able to miniaturise the box you made.
Softails are difficult to hide stuff, there's little space not fully utilised. That said, the area behind the splash guard at the rear and the oil tank is a location not quite yet full.
Of course it may not be the ideal location due to the wiring required. Just a suggestion.
Thanks again, I'm in awe at your solution.
cheers,
richo

I have been looking at alternatives for clean handlebars.. the difficulty for all of us who ride CAN Bus Softails is the fact that there is no complete solution in the market for clean hand control switches.. ... sure.. there is Gripace.com .. but they do not make a CAN Bus version... also.. there is the CAN Bus controller from namzcustoms (http://www.namzcustomcycleproducts.c...ontroller.html ) however, it is just the controller, no switches..
Soo.. I put my knowledge in electronics and computer science to work.. and I built my own custom made CAN Bus controller.. how? first.. I hacked the CAN Bus network using electronic and computer tools.. once I identified how the HD CAN Bus works I built the CAN Bus Controller.. here is a pic:

I had to also hack the gripace switch assembly to get it to work with my CAN Bus controller.. it was a painful process.. but the switches work as intended.. here is a pic:

I installed the custom made CAN Bus under the tank.. here is a pic ( this is a prototype, I am planning on making a much smaller version):

The operation is simple... the innermost switch is horn, second is right turn, third is left turn, fourth is for toggling the high/low beam... to turn on the engine I press both first and second buttons at the same time..
It all works really well.. I am pleased with the looks of the clean bars.. the brake assembly is a cheap-o Ebay radial master cylinder.. I am planning on replacing it with a quality one like Brembo or Racing master...
Now.. for the real kicker!!.. while playing with the CAN Bus controller circuitry I started thinking "What else can I do with it??" .. I have experience working with Android phones, electronics and robotics.. and I thought.. "man... I pretty much have control of the bike... how about remote control??".. well.. after tinkering with the ignition switch and start sequence.. I decided that I can perhaps I can use some Bluetooth trickery.. below is a video of the result.. pretty cool uh??.
