Question Anyone modified an ABS Pickup Sensor?

So I am trying to fit FB wheels on my Slim S.

I need to move the wheel about 1/4" to the left. That means that I either:

- Modify the wheel's hub or

- Modify the spacer on the left side

Since this is a bike with ABS, that spacer is attached to the pick up sensor for the ABS.

Before I try to mill 1/4" off that spacer on the sensor. Has anyone successfully modified the spacer side on this sensors?

Or should I be taking the wheel to a machine shop to modify the left side of the hub?

i dont know if you have looked for other sensors ... perhaps there are sensors for other models that are not that thick?.. if there is something like that then it should be a much simpler solution compared to milling the sensor (or the hub!! < ---- I dont like)

You would think the pickup is in the black plastic area on the area that faces the bearing. I think the bearing face is the other part that it is checking How are you going to hold it to mill it? Clamp it face down and walk clamp around? Mostly just signed on to see what you do.

Yeah... I am going to have to make some special clamp to hold the sensor by the spacer side while leaving the area to mill free... can't clamp it down on the plastic section... I will work on that in the next few afternoons after work...

Why not clamp it from the ID?

I will explore all options... it just need to be secured so that it does not move while I take material off. Not sure that I have something that would clamp it from the inside... need to check.

I was thinking the steel sleeve goes all the way thru. I see the internal rubber in the bore but I figured that was just a film since that is the clamp face for the axle torque. That is why I figured you would need to have it down on the table with a small clamp setting on the other side. Mill it off and re-clamp on the freshly milled face and finish it up to blend.

I have some split internal collects type of holders I use in my lathe. They have NPT pipe plugs in the face to expand them out. The're only good for light face and turn operations.

Some great ideas. Thank you. I am new to doing these mods with the milling machine. So I have the milling machine but limited amounts of tools to go with it. I am currently buying the additional tools as I need them.

You were spot on! Look at the rear sensor. The spacer is separate from the sensor... If the connector/plugs are the same as the front I should be able to just use a rear sensor with the correct spacer and be done with it. Much simpler solution... I will order a rear sensor (Part No. 40615-08) to confirm.

What about adding 1/4" spacers to the caliper mount instead?
