looked at some of those videos earlier, but did'nt see one for a newer fatboy of which the drain plug is near the back tire. i just want to make sure i'm doing it right.

When you out getting the oil, pick up a service manual.
It will instruct you through the process.
That being said, put 2.5 quarts in first, then let it settle then check the level and top it off as needed.

We all have to go through the new owners jitters...
I've learned in here that after 8yr and a few POST that their is nothing you Can't learn by GOOGLING your Question....
Sometimes you'll get flamed for asking simple question in here and then at other times you won't...
My Point is Not all the answers you'll get in here are Correct and some are really BAD, not everyone in here knows all the different bikes and how to do maintenance on them....
Reckon my point is --- use google to ask questions,, if only to check whats correct on how to work on your bike
I've been in here for 8yrs and probably have read and answered more ?'s than 90% of the members,,, and I still use Google everyday... to help me answer others questions and my own....
NOW that being said.... heres the best Site I've found on how to change your Softails oils...

All Softails use the same motor, transmission and primary (depending on year family). The difference between the models are the wheels, foot controls, sheet metal, etc.
An oil change on a Softail Standard will be exactly the same as a Breakout, Night train, Fatboy, etc.
