Yes, it was a little insensitive. It was actually intended to have the opposite effect: Assuming the total weight is too much for the bike, and that losing weight is difficult, then the remaining solution is to buy a separate bike for your OL.

yeah well, don't ya think he is being a little insensitive by saying he's gonna have to tell his wife she's to fat to ride on the bike when there's only a 25 pound difference between the two of them. I mean really, c'mon

Don't get me wrong I too sometimes get off subject on the forum but when I realize it I generally use the edit or delete option to remove my non-subject related comment especially if it comes across as derogatory or insensitive.
Erm. In my defence:

The OP posted:

I've quoted everything I posted in my initial response, and (other than my signature), everything is in response to specific things the OP posted. Whilst I didn't have the answer to the question of whether it is safe to ignore safety instructions, I suggested two remedies that remain within the safety guidelines which are obviously implied by statements the OP said.

Peg20, I didn't think your comment was rude or out of line. There is a big difference between making a suggestion that we lose weight and refering to someone as "chunks".
In any event, I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't unsafe for my wife and I to ride on the bike together because we (not just her, but me also) weigh more than the manual says we should weigh. From the comments I feel confident that there isn't a big danger in the two of us being on the bike together. Let's just leave it at that.

There are a number of riders who's better half is "better than half" ... Contrary to the aforementioned statement that the bikes are "rated" to avoid lawsuits is the fact that components of the scooter are engineered to perform their task to a limit beyond "rated" specifics ... However, that doesn't mean that you won't have issues. Also tires are a major factor when dealing with loads. Be careful.

we all know that HOGS are really the women that ride on the backs of the bikes and not some social riding club

To "huskers11"; I think you've gotten your answer to your question so I'm moving on.

To the trolls here; Karma will always even things out.
