I don`t think anyone makes a good regulator for Harleys. At least not for a Harley that shakes like my Evo Softail...
I have only had to deal with a warranty through them once. I don't know if it was because I am a shop or what but I had zero issue getting the replacement part (stator) from them. I would bet that if I was just Joe Blow calling them things may have been slightly more difficult...

We sell a lot of Accel products and I just installed their complete charging system on my 117" softail build I am doing at the moment. We also sell a lot of Cycle Electric and I can say both brands have served us well...

Ok, next time I need a Stator or Regulator for my bike, I`ll try the Accel

So, I decided to put in another voltage regulator. Figured I might as well go all out and got a Harley voltage regulator on line. Chrome while I was doing it. Also replaced the 30 amp breaker.

The battery shows full charge with the meter. But when I attach the cables, voltage drops to less than 3. Where is the loss? I am dazed and confused as to what to do next.

If that was a healthy battery dropping down to 3v, there would be significant arcing when you attach the cables - are you seeing that?

Fully charge the battery and get it load tested at AutoZone.

Where did you buy that regulator - was it new and is it a genuine Harley one?

No arcing at all. Actually nothing.

Got the part from Moto-Electrix.

Battery is fully charged, brought it to a friend who owns a shop. Everything is good with that. But nothing when I attach the battery cables.

Indicating fully charged voltage is one thing, passing a load test is another - take it for a load test as suggested.

Arcing will be seen and heard if you connected a load to a fully charged healthy battery which dropped the voltage down to 3v - the absence of arcing and the 3v is a clear sign that there's a dead cell in the battery.

Moto-Electrix ; so you bought another eBay one?

If that were a healthy fully charged battery dropping to 3 volts as soon as it was connected, you would see smoke instantly...and melting cables.

I'm just passing on information I received from a parts employee at a HD dealership.

I inquired about a chrome voltage regulator versus a chrome cover. They told me that the chrome VR had a much higher tendency to overheat and fail.

I chose the chrome cover. YMMV.

So, finally had time to go out and check the bike again. With everything off and cables connected, I get a reading of 12.94. As soon as I turn the power switch on, it drops to .08.
