Default Wrecked BO estimate

Here is the first step of the process.
The estimate from the insurance company came in at $9600 damage. It has to be 80% of the value of the bike to total it. They valued the bike at $17,837.00. Seems high for the value. But I guess if you were selling one you would like to get that much. But if you were looking for it to be totaled from a wreck you would want it to be less.
The bike is at the dealer where I bought it now. They said they would look at it in a few days to give their estimate. The insurance said the dealer would probably be higher.

The whole experience sucks. Been there.

I'd argue the total value. You should get some prices around the web. The value should be a realistic number for a selling/buying price.

Get yourself better, and stand up for yourself with the insurance company.

Why would you want it totaled? It will be like new when you get it back. As long as the frame isn't tweaked, and it will be checked with laser, the damage is easily repaired.

Not gonna happen, according to what he says. Even if they value the bike at $12,000, the estimate is right at 80%.....Your saying his bike's realistic value is less than $12,000?? Cause that's the math based on the estimate he got from the appraiser.

If insurance considers it totaled, maybe under $2500 tops... there are a lot of wrecked HD's for parts and salvage available. I am giving a price that a scraper or rebuild yard would offer for the bike if/when it is auctioned for sale.

But he said the dealer estimate may be higher. Disputing the replacement value might get the two numbers closer together.

Where did I say I wanted it totaled? If they can fix it correctly I'm fine with that. If it gets close to the number that it needs to be totaled then I'll get another one. I'm good either way.
I know it will go back and forth a little bit between the insurance and the dealer. Just posting so people can follow what the process is in case they have to go thru the same thing. It's been over 30 years since I've been in an accident so it's all new to me.

Correct. I'm just going with the flow for now to see what each side does. There's no telling what the out come is going to be at this time. Or how long it will take. The dealer did say that if they do the repairs it will be 30 to 60 days before it's ready.

NADA average retail is $18,520 in my zip, so I don't think they are far off
