Default Front Wiring - Indicators...Help

Hi all. Have a 2015 Fatboy Lo and am installing the alloy art LED front turn signals that fit onto the front end forks. My dilemma is what colour wires the indicator lights are. I have the front end all pulled apart, have chased wires as far as I could to the harness and am not having much luck. I've also read o lot of posts that son't seem to explain this. The reason is-

From the current signals that are on the bars two purple/brown stripe and black wires run to the controls on the bars (first pic on the LHS). Here the wires enter a fully enclosed pack and the wires that exit down the bars and into the harness under the tank is - twisted red/white and black/white, red, white/light brown stripe and black wires on the RHS (second pic) and the same on the LHS apart for the white wire.

I am wanting to connect into the indicator wires to my new LED indicator lights where they come out of the bars at the bottom before they go under the tank.

Does anyone know whether the twisted wires are the indicator signal wires? I would prefer not to cut the wires and test each one.

Thanks for your help.

Try using a pin or sewing needle to pierce the insulation on the wire then hook your multimeter to that. This way you don't have to cut the wire.

Hi
I replaced my stock front indicators a few years back with LED's.

The easiest option was to fit a new Multilock connector to the LED wires.
Under the tank, unplug the old indicators and plug in the new, simple, no cutting and splicing, and I can always revert back to the old kit just by unplugging.

I'm assuming a lot here and guessing the wiring will be the same as my'09 FXSTC,
You'll need a 6 way Multi lock housing
AMP part No 174923
RS No 720-1168
or

HD No
HOUSING, 6-place socket
Part No: 73156-96BK

If you want to do it this way let me know, I'm working on the bike this weekend and can take some pics of what I did and confirm the wiring colors to pin numbers.

You haven't mentioned a "Load equiliser" to run the LED's, did this already come with your lights?

Hi,

Appreciate your reply and thanks for your wiring diagram. It appear the wiring colours are bit different to the fatboy but it provides me a better understanding of the circuitry.

i currently just have socket connector under each side of the tank that connects both the RHS and LHS controls. If I connect any other plug into this I would lose the connections to the other connections on the controls i.e start, high beam etc. I hope this makes some sense.

I wanted to avoid having to break the insulation of the wire to test each one but seems I have no choice.

I have not purchased a load equalizer yet as I was waiting to connect and also do the reset and test to see if I need one.

Thanks again and any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but tearing into your wiring w/o a schematic (e.g. service manual) is asking for electrical gremlins to take over your bike. As the diagram shows, signals are BLK (ground) and V (violet). Unless you purchased signals with odd wiring, there should be matching wires. Hope all goes well - good luck & post up some pics when done.

I think you're attacking it from the wrong end by trying to break into the control side.
You should be connecting to the feed supply for the indicators. Both left and right indicators would normally be fed from a common dedicated plug and socket.
Can you trace the wiring from the indicators to under the tank?
If you can confirm they do indeed terminate in a 6 way plug then I can help you.

Thanks again for your comments.

Totally agree with you Iceman24 and is why I have come here to see if anyone has done a similar connection. In this case I have no manual yet as the bike is quite new and if all else fails will be taking it to a shop to install.

GazB - I've attached a picture of the RHS of the tank and current connections. The wiring as described in my original post connects to a 4 wire harness. The white/grey stripe is separated to another connector.

There is however a 6 pin connector attached to nothing that sits just under these plugs. Is this what you are referring to or would this be for something totally different?

Thanks.

Great News!

Gaz B - the 6 connector plug you are talking about does operate my left and right indicators and also what appears to be running lights. I just tested the connector with the multi and all is good.

Now the next question is where to get the adapting plug. I presume this is the part you were referring to below?

Pin sockets (6 needed) - HD part #73191-96, JP Cycles part #383-043
Plug end receptacle - HD part #73156-96BK, JP Cycles part #382-405

Just sourced these as I removed my Deluxe's driving light/signal bar and am replacing it with an Alloy Art side bar setup!

Wiring for plug as follows (from top down);
1) black - right ground
2) brown - right signal
3) red - right running
4) red - left running
5) violet - left signal
6) black - left ground

Good luck!
