Brake control
The front brake is the one that has the most stopping power, so maybe plumb the rear master cylinder to the front brake?
Or maybe try t-ing off the rear master to operate both brakes? I have no idea whether this would give the right proportioning of front/rear braking bias, but there are adjustable proportioning valves available through the automotive aftermarket that might be able to deal with this.

It was maybe a year before many normal things didn't hurt to do..
Then sensitivity returned to normal
You never said when this happened

I have always been a fan of the GP/ Moto GP. The 500cc 2 stroke days were the best.
Years ago, Mick Doohan hand a thumb lever on the left bar if memory serves, in order to race with a injury.
I have no idea if the idea caught on, but with the 'net we might be able to replicate his setup if your Nephew has a good thumb...
Here is an image, you might have do do some searching...
Looks like you push the lever with your thumb.

This would be fairly cheap and easy:
1 brake lever on top of the other clutch lever left side. (or vice versa).
