These bikes run hot and need all the help they can get. So I always run the oil level at FULL. Vent your air cleaner to atmosphere and you don't need to worry about running it lower. Just my 2 cents
WHAT?? "Vent your air cleaner to atmosphere"?? Having trouble visualizing that. Do explain or post pics of your venting. With that 2 cents...just keep the change.

Quite common practice around here - stops air cleaner element fouling and combustion chamber carbon build-up.
[QUOTE=Bluraven;14976474]yep, there's always about a quart left in the oil tank.
I generally put 2.5 qts. in and then top it off as needed.
There are those who swear by "scavenging" all the oil out and do a near 100% oil replacement but I'm not sure there's any data that states doing this results in longer engine life.
IMO as long as you change the oil every 3K for dino oil or 5K for synthetic oil I think the

The OP's question has been answered.
This thread is over.
If you don't vent the crank to atmosphere and leave it in the air cleaner you will get oil mist pulled into the air cleaner. It makes a mess and hurts performance. Some people leave their oil level below full to prevent this. That is why some people posted about leaving the oil level half a quart low. Not a good solution in my opinion. Thats all.

Go to DK Customs web site and search for breathers, they have pics, prices and theories.

Really? Don't think i have ever heard that before, do they come from factory that way from some EPA standard?
