A while back I ordered a set of L.A. chopper solid riser bushings but never installed them cause i put poly bushings in when I swapped out my old ape hangers. With 14 inch apes the poly bushings felt great and restricted a lot of the bar motion, enough to make it feel solid. When I put my 18 inch ape hangers on I felt that the poly bushings were not cutting it. Putting the solid bushings in eliminated all flex and made the bars solid again. It feels so much better hammering down the throttle and hitting the brakes. For those who have 16+ inch ape hangers I recommend them.
With tall apes the vibrations are slight but worth dealing with to have the bars planted. I would not recommend them for anything lower than 14's cause they are expensive compared to poly and poly did just fine on my 14's. Poly bushings still let vibrations pass threw so it really is hard to tell if there is any more vibration.
I just put some 10" risers, and high tracker bars so all together I have a 14" rise. I have a lot of play in my bars when I hammer it, or have to brake hard. I am trying to decide whether or not just to go solid or poly. Everything I've read says solid is the best route so now I just need to find a good pair of solid bushing. Any suggestions?
I used a set of LA chopper solid bushings. They have a great finish and a perfect fit in the sockets. They are my first set so I am not sure how other brands fit. The poly bushings are really hard so they let most vibrations threw. They also allow some flex which with real tall bars is noticeable.
10-4, I'll check out those LA Choppers solid bushings.
So far I really like the LA choppers solid bushings man make your bike handling feel a lot better I didn't notice a big difference in vibration well worth the money I think they were around 50 or 60 bucks on revzilla and I just reused my stock bolts
I ended up going with Demon Cycles who have solid bushings. They were only around $27 shipped and have worked fine so far. They came with a new set of bolts but they work hex heads that would have been a pain to get screwed all the way in so I just stuck with the stock bolts that I had on the original pair.
