Default How screwed am it?

How screwed am I? Rear head bottom stud. Hit it with some penetrant oil a few times. Used a stud puller and it just removed all of the threads. Can't get any nuts in it cause it's a smooth piece of metal now. Vice grips just spin around, unless I should be using bigger grips. I'm thinking of having a buddy weld that nut on there. What type of welding though? Arc, Tig, Mig? I know nothing of welding.

Welding the nut closer to the bottom would be your best bet. I would continue to soak it in penetrating oil and slowly back it out. It would suck to pull the head off (appears to be off already) if the bolt sheers off but it really isn't a ton of work either

Yeah, I am anticipating it snapping off. Pull the head last night. Good thing I like working on my bike. Plus it ha e me a chance to see how the cylinders look. Pretty clean but the piston looks nasty. Probably as a result of the crappy base gas. You think an arc welder would be OK to use? Someone told me the slag would destroy my head? Also, would it be detrimental the try to clean the combustion chamber and top of the pistonwith some like carb cleaner or something?

Have you tried heating up the head before removing the stud?

Heating the head too hot may ruin the finish if the op cares about that. The dirty piston tops is probably from oil being ingested threw the intake.

I did not try to heat the actual head only the stud. No dice. I definitely don't wanna destroy the finish. That's why I'm trying to figure out if hitting that nut with an arc welder will be safe. And should I clean off that piston while I have it exposed or just leave it?

Since you used heat on the stud, it is now brittle because it was not quenched right afterwards.

Get some PB Blaster and let it soak for a day, then remove with a proper sized stud puller. The one you used was too big and that is why the threads became stripped.

If you're worried about excess heat, use thermal paste

Yeah, this is the frustration of being in Japan.... Standard tools next to impossible to find, who knows what's in all the cans... It's definitely not PB blast....do they even have thermal paste here... All good my buddy has a mig welder. Dropped the head off to him today. I'll let y'all know how it works out.
