Default Punctured tire...again!

I know this is a time-worn subject; I guess I could keep asking the question until I get the answer I want to hear
Nearly new rear tire on my '06 Springer Softail, 1500 miles on it and I found a 1-1/2" long framing nail in the tread. It was in at an angle so, hoping it was only in the tread I pulled it out. Yup, tire went flat. So, my choices are park it for two months while I save up the $300 for a new one or try plugging it and ride until I can replace it. This tire replaced the 5000 mile old tire that picked up a nail in February.

Retired and on fixed income taxes cleaned us out so there are my choices. I'm leaning towards plugging it and riding gently. Thoughts?

If you do fix it, an umbrella or plug/patch is the only way to go...

I pugged a tire with an umbrella plug. Sealed good, no problems. I would also get some "ride on" for the front and rear wheel. Ride on should seal a puncture and balance the wheel as well.

Jimmy, what size tire is it and where in Alabama are you located?

Put a tube in the tire. It will work fine and much cheaper than a new tire

I plugged a tire to get me home, but I wouldn't ride on a plug for long, personally. I would be comfortable with a patch from the inside.

I also am a big fan if Ride-On after doing research on it. I have it in my tires, it actually can cure a leak in a tube like I have, not very time, but sometimes and I'll take sometimes rather than never!

I've also learned than an indy shop is ½ price or less than my Harley shop for mounting tires....

Rear tire is a 200/55 R17. We are in Huntsville. An indy shop put the current tire on, $198 for the tire $80 to mount and balance; Harley wanted $275 & $85.
