so far, these guys don't seem to be desperate. they've sold a few BOs and have no more in stock in either vivid black or charcoal denim. they do have a gold flake one.. not crazy about it so I guess I have to wait.

Do yourself a favor and visit other dealers. Also check the classified section of this forum. My dad's Road King is for sale in there as are many other low mileage bikes for good prices.

Out the door payment. That includes what ever they tack on. Usually BS, seriously. Just say NO! What you will pay. It's non negotiable.

Should I expect another $1000 or $2000 in fees?
Did you guys pay a lot for installation on items like exhaust and air cleaner, or did they waive the installation charge?

I need to know if I am being jerked around by them. The unknowns is what I am trying to figure out Would be nice to get an idea on numbers that's all.

Thanks again guys. It's been truly appreciated.
I bought my first new Harley in 1978, I've bought 4 other new Harleys over the years and probably 10 or so new cars.. The game is the same, and it's not that complicated....

Taxes and DMV fees are fixed. You can calculate your tax. Usually your DMV website will have a fee calculator... anything more than you calculate is a dealer add-on... $$$$

The destination fee (freight charge) is a flat charge from Harley. It is listed in the vehicle specs on the HD web site- a 2016 Heritage is $390 freight- It is a flat freight rate for that bike to anywhere in the country (that's what they told us in my 2012 factory tour). Anything more than posted on the web site is a dealer add-on...$$$$

Dealer prep is a dealer created fee. It's the dealer trying to recover the cost of un-crating the bike and minor assembly/adjustment to put it on the floor. I saw a video of a a Harley being un-crated. Unlike the old days, they are complete right out of the "box". I would think anything over an hour labor rate is excessive... I think this is something you can negotiate on.

Documentation fees are a dealer created fee. They are adding the cost of someone filling out the sales, tax, & DMV paperwork. I've always thought this was the cost of doing business, but you will see them from $100 to $400. I won't pay over $100.

Custom parts at time of purchase are negotiable. A lot of dealers will give you 20% off parts at the time of purchase or within a time frame of purchase. Some may charge List on the part, but install for free. Because of this, I always start with a stock bike, decide what if anything I want at purchase and whether or not I'm willing to pay dealer labor rate to install it. I never discuss this until after the out-the door price on all the above has been negotiated. I will never buy a "dealer customized" bike. Waaay to easy for them to add $$$$$$ without an itemized list of parts & install costs...

This is my 2 cents on the subject. Good luck with the search and enjoy the new bike!

My brother just bought a brand new Heritage for $1500 over invoice. He found the dealer invoice online and took that with him to the stealership, told them he'd pay $1500 over that and they had 30 minutes to say yes or no.
Would be the quickest $1500 they could make on a Tuesday.

They took it.

No harm in trying, worst case is they counter offer or say no.

Good luck man. And stand firm. State your mind and I like the time limit they have to respond by listed above.
Just bought my wife a 2012 883 superlow this monday. Bike was fitted with forward controls which the bike desperately needs. A full system V&H short shot and with only 1,500mi
Bike is mint. Only paid $5,500 with $100. Fee

Whootwhooo!! that dealer is gonna be begging for mercy bro, solid plan I'm sure after you beat them up on everything and pretty much steal the bike from under their eyes they will be eating lean for the next few months!!! I'm smelling a legendary buy right here!!!

last question.. today should be the day I ring the frikin bell. i'm finalizing my build. trying to be a little different but also want stuff that works. out of the gate i want to change exhaust and air cleaner/intake and obviously add a tuner. thinking about going with the Cobra speedster short swept 2into2 chrome and a Cobra PowrFlo air intake. any thoughts or experience with those two? also which tuner? HD will push the Screaming Eagle tuner.. will that work or should I really push to have my own? I know how to tune using my laptop, and have done so on other non-HD bikes. will only do so if I'm not happy with the sound or performance of this setup. The last thing I want to do is pay HD every time I need to make an adjustment, so the tuner has to have the ability for me to tweak on my own. Does the Screamin Eagle allow that?

thanks guys.. this should be it..
