Yes!!!! That is what I'm trying to say, I like the look of the 402's. But I keep reading on this forum that the elites and the elite 3 now I'm reading that there is a elite 4. Are better handling tires. The problem is the shops around here don't stock them so I could see the difference.. They will order the tire!!!
When you walk into a dealership and see a deluxe. Those tires just say old school.. That is what I am after.. When I saw the metzeler www . It just didn't look like the 402www.. It looked like the white wall was a little shorter {not as wide}. swifty
The whitewall on the American Elite is similar to the 402, nice and wide. The whitewall on the Elite 4 is quite a bit narrower, from what I have seen and heard. I'm going with the American Elite's once I wear through my 402's.
The whitewall on the American Elite looks the same as the D402. The tread design looks definitely more modern. Now everyone who knows me, or my bike, knows I am all about retro. In most everything except when it comes to performance and safety.
I can't imagine anyone looking at my tire tread design and saying "why do you have such a modern tread design on the tires on such a retro bike?" They just look like cool wide white wall tires.
But they ride so much better than the D402, so far. I wouldn't hesitate to put on the American Elites on again and to recommend them. I have no experience with the Elite 3 or the Elite 4 tires.
Thanks for the info I just came from the dealership and ordered the American Elites.. They will call me when they come in , and then I will drop off my bike.. Im thinking about buying a no mar tire changer , because this isn't cheap!!!!!swifty
