2000 Deuce.
When I get on the front brakes hard I get a clunk that seems to come from the stem area.
I have learned that this clunk is a common issue with many bikes - for different reasons.
I read an article where this was solved on Softails by HD recommending to up the torque on the steering head nut to 100ftlbs to the Softail models FXSTD/FXST/FXSTB and not the dyna family or the FLSTC/FLSTF.
What I did not find in the article is what models/years that solution was to cover.
I can find no TSB or recalls for my bike.
Anyone able to shed any light on this for me?
SERVICE BULLETIN 2008-0211 REFERS TO 2008 AND EARLIER FX MODELS.
INDICATES: 1...REPLACING TOP WASHER WITH NEW HARDENED WASHER (pn 45727-08). 2...ADJUST STEERING STEM NUT TO 70-80 FT-LBS. 3...THEN ADJUST THE FALL AWAY PER SHOP MANUAL.
the only time I had a clunk in the front end was when my Indy change the fork oil and he didn't put enough oil back in... his finger must have moved to another line when he looked it up...
anyway it'd bottom out real easy and make a clunk.. after adding about 3ozs more to each fork,, no more clunking...
Thanks. This is exactly what I've been looking for.
