total loss?
i almost wrecked a week ago, car pulled in front of me and took up my whole lane, i went into a farm field. i was glad i was able to keep the bike up, but more for the reasons that i didn't get hurt. bikes can be replaced, i have a friend who lost a leg a few months ago.
glad you're ok. could've been worse. i went down to avoid a deer once. didn't hit him but went off road and took a nasty spill. I was ok but bike was totaled. hit a tree on the way down and that was it. i wouldn't trust any repairs after that. not at the speeds i'm doing.
post pics of the damages and let us know how it turns out. good luck!
ps. don't forget to strip some of the aftermarket stuff if you decide to get the same bike later.

Had a deer encounter a few years ago also. Seen the deer crossing and had slowed down but thought they had all crossed so speeded back up. Bad choice as one who was left behind decided to join the party. Was on my 80FXWG and tee boned him. Didn't go down but was stuck in the middle of the road with my left foot stuck under the seat with me sitting on it. Sun was just setting and my headlight was history. A car stopped to see what I was doing sitting in the middle of the road(two lane) with no light on. Seen the dilemma and helped me extract my foot from under the seat. As was your case he tells me I'm all covered in sh!tt. Told him I didn't know if it was mine or the deer. I'm hobbling around with not much feeling in my left leg and wondering what damage had been done. It had torn the heel off my boot and bruised me up is all. The bike on the other hand had a bent front wheel, fork tubes; fender; headlight; shifter peg; and was jammed in third gear. Good Samaritan helped me remove the front fender and was my headlight as I limped on home to my Parents house ten miles away. There was humor in the story though. I was headed out on a trip when this happened so hammered the front 21 out with a dead blow hammer and a block of wood; found a new front fender on the trip; used brute force to get tranny out of stuck 3rd and continued on with the trip a day later. About two years later I was mid trip somewhere in Nebraska and needed a new front tire. The shop changing it asked if I had hit a dog. Me.. Nope...but the front tire was full of hair..him...me and bambi and a close encounter that was no fun for either.
Deer hit me a month ago. Insurance estimate was $8500, I took it to my dealer and their estimate was $14,197. On a 09 Night Train that will pretty much do it in. I am waiting now to see what the insurance estimator comes back with. I guess he has to agree to all the things the Harley dealer says is on the estimate before they total it. I don't want it totalled it took me too long to find the bike I wanted and to get all my crap put on it.
on my way to work earlier this week, riding my 2010 fatboy I hit a deer doing about 55, I still haven't seen the bike in daylight, so I don't really know how bad the damage is yet, but I do know the front fender, headlight, one turn signal, and gas tank are all trashed. there's not really a whole lot to a bike, and I can't imagine it taking much to total one. do you guys think it will be totaled with that kind of damage? I'm gonna pick the bike up from the tow lot later today, I'll post pictures asap.
Thanks-

after seeing it in daylight, I don't think it will get totaled, but it's still hard to say. I went back to the crash site today, judging by the lines on the pavement, the bike slid at least 60 ft. I feel lucky to be alive, this could have very easily been way worse for me.

Doesn't look too bad in the pictures. Like was mentioned above, If you own it outright they will write you the check for the repairs. Looks like it's time for a custom paint job and some upgrades!
Glad you're ok, I had a pretty bad incident almost 2 years ago. They totaled the bike and it took me almost a year of rehab and one armed wrenching to get the bike back to running order. Be patient, insurance companies are slow, and you may have to haggle with them. But, it could be worse....

I hit a deer on my FatBoy about 4 months ago running about 60 mph. All of a sudden she was right there. I turned into her thinking that was my best chance hitting her straight on. I didn't go down and never stopped until I got to work. My leg hurt so bad I didn't think I would be able to hold my bike up. I looked down and there was no oil leaking or blood so that was good. The bad part was having to tell my wife I hit a deer when I got home from work. She shut me off at riding a 3:00 in the morning. Went to the Dr the next day no broken bones or clots. Had around $3400 in damages to the bike and went ahead and had a stage 1 done.
