Just wanted your opinion of a bike I'm considering buying from a private party. I'm a fairly new rider, but I feel like I've outgrown my sportster 1200 low. I'm looking at a 2004 Heritage Classic with 14,000 miles on it. Looks really good. Rode it this morning and really liked it. The fellow is asking $9200 for it which seems little high; NADA has average retail at about $7600.
The questions are:
1. Does this seem like a decent deal?
2. Should I worry the bike being 12 years old?
3. Does this seem like a good choice for a 50 year old, about 6'1 190 pounds.
Kelley Blue Book lists it at $8600. I have an "04 Standard and have not experienced any problems. Bought it at 50 and I am the same size as you. You can't go wrong with a Heritage, you can do light touring or cruising, depends on what you want out of a bike. It'll be quite a different ride than your Sportster.
Good luck!

I bought my 2004 Heritage 3 years ago for half that. I admit, I got a smokin deal, as it was a trade in at the dealership I work at.
1. Yes, that price is high considering I have a 2009 heritage classic for sale. I'm asking 9995. http://sanmarcos.craigslist.org/mcy/5567574973.html
2. Expect some maintenence. Also, in 2007 HD went to a 6 speed tranny and a larger engine.
3. I'm your age and size and I wouldn't like a sporty, but that's me.

I had an 04, black and gold HSTC and it was one of the best bikes I ever owned. I traded it in last year and got almost 8k from my dealer. They sold it in a week for 10.5k. The bike was mint and this was in 2015.
