Default Shift indicator problem

I have a 2013 CVO Breakout and the shift indicator is either intermittent, or just stops working. Any ideas as to what the issue might be?

did you scroll to the "grear/rpm" screen? I've only noticed the gear indicator lagging behind on my 2016 Breakout. it takes a few moments before it actually shows you what gear you are in after you shift.. I don't use it or rely on it, but I do like to monitor the RPMs which also happens to be on the same screen.

I don't use mine but have before....

Drodrigueznyc is right...sometimes it lags....I noticed mine is very sensitive...I barely touch the clutch and the gear indicator goes blank....could be a possible loose connection if it completely goes out and comes back on intermittently.....

Seems like they do lag behind sometimes. My last Breakout and my new one does the same thing. Sometimes the 6th gear light comes on while I'm down shifting and then goes out.

Rather than use a mechanical method of determining what gear the transmissions in, Harley decided it was cheaper to use a "Best Guess" electrical method using the ECU and various inputs to, as I said, "guess" what gear the bike is in. That's why it gets confused when the clutch is in - it thinks you're shifting. That's also why if you change the gear ratios of the primary by too much it blows it's mind. I changed my primary from 1.35:1 to 1.55:1, and HD doesn't have a clue how to correct the gear readout.

It calculates the gear based on your speed versus engine RPM. So anytime you pull in the clutch and coast, even if for just half a second while shifting, it will misread what gear you are in, usually flashing the 6, then it registers out of range and turns off. So you are cruising at 60 mph with your engine at 3k RPM it will register 5th, but when you pull in the clutch and the engine RPM drops it will it will first register 6th for a moment and then it can't calculate because the RPM/Speed ratio is out of its range.

OK so when I shut the bike off and turn it back on should it work again? Mine doesn't.

The sad thing is that I can change my speed sensor pulses, but then the speedo would be off while the gear indicator would work. Argh! Why doesn't Harley just allow you to change the parameters for determining the gears?!
