It's not quite the same scenario but there was a thread on here not to long ago talking about the bike going dead in mid run. Turned out to be a dirty tank ignition switch, ya might try cleaning that too.
A friend of mine was just telling me the same thing this morning.Asked if I had the dash off recently. Not recently, but I'll look at that as well. Thanks all for the help.
The first thing I thought of reading your post was the kill switch. Do you use your kill switch to shut down the bike? When the problem happened did you try cycling the kill switch? The fact you were able to bump it off, I would think, would eliminate the ignition switch or at least knock it down on the list.
Another culprit could be the starter relay. I replaced mine a couple of years ago and it was only $5 and change at Harley so an easy item to check.

That's why I asked what year. The newer models don't have a starter relay. Since he was able to bump start it, then I'd say there's a problem somewhere between the start switch and the starter relay.
I'm thinking loose battery terminal or clutch switch / jiffy stand switch. Try starting in neutral next time. If you have a whip or anything attached to your clutch lever that will not allow it to pull ALL the way back, it could be the cause.

I don't.I usually use the switch on the dash, and nothing more.I did try to cycle the kill switch,as well as turning the ign. switch on/off a couple times.I'm also not sure why it would bump start, but not with the starter switch.I'll have a look at that relay.
