crankcase vent bypass?
I pulled my air filter to clean it today and found an oily dirt residue in the mass air meter cover. Is there any way to bypass whatever is causing this? I'm assuming this is some sort of venting system similar to what they put on cars. Any help is appreciated. 2013 cvo breakout 4200 miles.
I you are both cheap and fearless just plug the two bolts that have holes in them and hold the backplate to the engine. Then drill about a 1/8 hole in the center of the dip stick cap. One on the three feeds to the oil bag on the Softail is a balance tube between the engine and crankcase. The crankcase will vent the little hole instead of going into the intake.
My experiment with that system has worked well without any oil film going onto the dipstick.
I have also done a system for the touring bikes. But am still working out kinks on the Dyna's.

So two questions:
1) What's the benefit of doing this besides a less dirty air cleaner?
2) Do they drip in your garage after you park it?

That oily mist causes carbon to build up on your intake valves and pistons which hurts performance. It also causes your throttle body to get gunked up. I get a single drop on the garage floor once in awhile. Not enough to even talk about.
Here is a link to how I vented mine for about $12 to $15 in fittings and tubing.
