I currently have a 2015 Forty-Eight. But looking for an upgrade - to a used Fatboy Special.
My questions are basically for those who have a Fatboy. I know the 48 and Fatboy are in different class bikes - but hows the bike riding in the city? or it it better more for highways and open roads? Why did you choose the fatboy over another bike?
The biggest improvement going from a sportster to any big twin is the longer wheelbase of the big twins makes the ride a lot less choppy than a sportster.
I don't ride in a big city but I ride in suburbia, lots of traffic and traffic signals. My Fat Boy S is really easy to ride, it's low and pretty light. I ride a lot of highway also, I've taken it to the mountains of NC/TN/GA, no problems there either.
I love my Fat Boy. Besides being a darn good looking bike it handles and rides very well. Also withe the detachable bags and windshield you can go from mean to touring in minutes.
Yes you will need new cables for mini apes, and the center of gravity on a softail is much lower than on a top heavy sporty. This makes the softail easy to handle even though it is bigger than your sporty...Congrats on the new bike! Have fun riding and modding her!
