Default Softail Questions - tachometer/vibrations

Greetings all,

Looking to add a Softail to my garage. It's been awhile since I owned a Softail.

1. Can you actually read the small font digital tachometer on the stock speedo when riding/accelerating? Is it useful? I'm trying to avoid spending about $300 dollars for a combo speedo/tach... Looking for honest feedback here.

2. When do vibrations start coming through the handlebars/grips with the 103B? IIRC, my old Softails started buzzing at around 75-80 mph... I don't experience any buzzing/vibration on my Dyna with the rubber mounted A frame engine, when cruising on the highway. Love that about the rubber mounted platform.

I want another Softail, thus my questions.

TIA for your input/experiences.

Cheers,
B

I use the little tach readout in the speedo just fine, no extra tach for me. It also tells you what gear your in just in case you go brain dead. No problems. I get the buzz only in the footboards during lugging type acceleration but iit is not bad. Speed does not matter, so i try not to lug the engine to often. I have read here on this forum that the buzz, if any, varies from bike to bike. Hope this helps.

I think it would make as much since as texting and drivings. Personally, the speedometer is pretty useless in traffic around here. I put a heads up tac on mine. I pretty much use it for everything. Most of the time I use a full face helmet which adds to the problem. (I am tall and I have to look down to read it)

I can read the Tach on my 2015 Fat Boy at all speeds and conditions.

Good luck with your purchase! I will always own a Softail.

Huh? You need something to tell what gear what you're in? You're worried about handlebar vibration among other thing?
I'm in the wrong forum!
EDIT: Meant to be a lil humor not rude.

No problems reading the digital tach on my slim. I leave it in gear/tach mode all the time. And I wear a full face helmet most of the time.

^^^ I generally refrain from responding to such useless/infantile posts, but I'll indulge you.

I've owned motorcycles for almost 40 years. I'm at the point in my life that if I can continue to enjoy riding, then I'll seek the little luxurious like a windshield, risers or other useful amenities/luxuries to continue to two wheel it. Less compromises is a good thing! Less vibration is good as it causes me to enjoy riding at longer distances. You do ride over 10 miles, outside of visiting a bar?

I ride my bikes hard, I use the tach!

Responding to threads with useless humor/insults that offers absolutely no value, leads me to believe that you are one of those azzhats that feels good about themselves when trying to be humorous, at the expense of labeling yourself as a loser? Hiding behind your own inadequacies? It's another reason why I don't post much, due to immature azzhats like u. I digress; rant over...

TY to those gents that offered some valuable input. You saved me $300 bones.

Cheers/b

'16 heritage...was thinking about upgrading the speedo but after putting some miles on mine...the tach is perfectly fine...I keep it on that selection while I ride. And as for vibrations...have not really noticed anything at all speeds. I did add lower wind detectors that pretty much took care of the buffetting. Good luck and post pics of the new scoot!

Having the fuel gauge in the speedo cluster makes it with the money to me! I like the combo gauge. Enjoy your Softail.

I am using the Dakota Digital Speedometer and the bar turns red & starts blinking like crazy once you hit the limiter (not from ECM but what ever you program). Very easy to catch from the corner of your eye vs. taking your eyes off the road when riding hard.
